Band plays
Longtime Trinidad country rock band the Tidepool Highdivers will play at the Mad River Tap Room in Blue Lake from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
The band plays an eclectic mix of good time music. Members are Kevin O’Malley on drums, Pete Monahan on bass, Bill Hunter on fiddle, percussion and vocals, Dave Deason on percussion, vocals and harmonica, Tom Marquette on guitar and vocals, and Bryce Kenny on guitar and vocals.
Folklife Festival
The Humboldt Folklife Society will present the Humboldt Folklife Festival from July 18 to 25 in Blue Lake.
The event, which began in 1978, serves to highlight the many talented musicians in Humboldt County and to encourage people to participate in music and dance.
This year’s festival kicks off with a special show featuring Kingfoot and Huckleberry Flint on July 18 at the Dell’Arte Amphitheatre. This will be a fundraiser for Humboldt Folklife Society. On July 20, there will be a performance by Nigella Mahal inside the Carlo Theater at Dell’Arte at 7 p.m. The show celebrates Mahal’s new album, “Murmurations.” Tickets are available at https://dellarte.com/ or at the door.
“Songwriter Night” is set for July 21 at 7 p.m. in Dell’Arte’s Carlo Theater. The evening will be hosted by Patrick Cleary and feature Tony Cogliati, Dave Trabue, James Zeller and Katy Belknap performing original songs and discussing their songwriting process. The festival then moves outside to the Amphitheatre Stage at Dell’Arte for “Bluegrass and Beyond” on July 22 at 6 p.m., featuring A Banjo Makes Three, Compost Mountain Boys and Hobohemia. On July 23 at 6 p.m. is Under the Stars with Harmonic Howl, April Moore and Ranch Party, and local favorites Cadillac Ranch with special guest Ruby Ruth George. July 24’s “Barn Dance” features Lyndsey Battle and Cidermill Stringband at Prasch Hall in Blue Lake, starting at 7 p.m. No experience is needed to attend. Purchase tickets at https://humboldtfolklife.com/humboldt-folklife-festival.
The “All Day Free Folk Festival” is set for July 25 and features 16 bands plus various workshops and the traditional “Beatles Singalong.” The day, which takes place at Dell’Arte, begins at 10:30 a.m. and runs until 8 p.m. Food trucks and a kids area will be available.
