Filmmaker Christopher Nolan and actor Tom Holland arrived in Mumbai ahead of The Odyssey’s India premiere. The much-anticipated film is set to become the director’s first title to receive an official premiere in India. Actor Matt Damon is also expected to join the promotional events.
Universal Pictures International has included Mumbai as one of the official stops on The Odyssey’s global premiere tour, placing the city alongside London, Paris and New York.
Friday, July 10: Arrival in Mumbai and India premiere
Nolan and Holland arrived in Mumbai on Friday, with videos and photos of their arrival quickly surfacing online. Holland was first seen at Mumbai airport before checking into the iconic Taj Mahal Palace hotel, while Nolan arrived separately with his wife and longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas.
The India premiere begins on Friday with a special screening of The Odyssey for a select section of the Indian media. The visit marks Nolan’s first official film premiere in India.
Saturday, July 11: Press conference
The second day of the India visit will feature a press conference, where Nolan is scheduled to interact with the Indian media and answer questions about the film.
Later in the day, The Odyssey will have a special India premiere screening attended by celebrities from the Indian film industry.
Matt Damon is also expected to join the promotional events alongside Nolan and Holland.
This is Nolan’s third official visit to India. The filmmaker last visited the country in 2019 while shooting Tenet. During that trip, he was accompanied by actors John David Washington and Robert Pattinson – who also stars in The Odyssey – and spent around ten days filming key sequences in India.
Before that, Nolan travelled to India in 2011 to shoot portions of The Dark Knight Rises at the historic Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur.
Thursday, July 17: Worldwide theatrical release
Written and directed by Nolan, The Odyssey is an adaptation of Homer’s timeless Greek epic. The film follows Odysseus, played by Damon, as he embarks on a perilous journey back to Ithaca after emerging victorious in the Trojan War.
The ensemble cast also includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o and Samantha Morton. Produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas under their banner Syncopy, The Odyssey is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17.
