Catt Sadler is engaged!
The Emmy-winning journalist, Catt Sadler Now podcast host, and author behind Substack’s publication SUBSTANTIAL announced her engagement to entrepreneur Greg Alterman, 57, on Friday, July 10, via Instagram and in a Substack post detailing their love story entitled “I Said Yes at 51.”
“I spent a lifetime learning what love isn’t. The zigzag, the wrong turns, the years I abandoned myself to keep someone else comfortable,” Sadler, who has been married twice before, wrote on Instagram.

She continued, “It took losing it all to learn the order of things: come home to yourself first. Then let someone good come home to you. If you’re somewhere in the middle of that road right now, I promise you it’s not too late.”
The former E! News anchor got engaged to Alterman, who founded Alternative Apparel and Juice Served Here, on Friday, June 26, during a romantic getaway to Punta de Mita, Mexico, at beachfront resort Susurros del Corazón — a fitting location, as the Spanish phrase translates to “whispers of the heart.”
Sadler exclusively tells PEOPLE that the proposal was “completely, uniquely” them.
“No cliff at sunset, no hidden photographer. It was morning. We were having coffee. I was in my robe with under-eye patches on, he was in his boxers, incense was burning, and we were sharing our intentions for the day when he asked me to marry him,” she shares. “I said the calmest yes of my life.”

Alterman got down on one knee and presented Sadler with a 5-carat, old mine-cut diamond set east-west (horizontally across the finger) in a minimal four-prong setting on a platinum band that he designed with his longtime, trusted jeweler.
“The old mine cut has that antique, candlelit glow rather than modern sparkle,” Sadler says. The antique diamond shape has grown in popularity since Travis Kelce chose the cut for wife Taylor Swift‘s engagement ring.
Sadler adds, “Vintage and romantic, but a little unexpected. Very us.”
Although the proposal came later in life, Sadler says it was the perfect time.
“At 51, sober, and more myself than I’ve ever been, this didn’t feel like fireworks — it felt like peace. Like home,” she says. “I was and am completely overjoyed.”
Sadler and Alterman first connected on a dating app in 2021.
“We’d both been married before and raised children — between us we have six kids, ranging in age from 9 to 25,” says Sadler, who shares two sons, Austin and Arion, with her first ex-husband, Kyle Boyd. Meanwhile, Alterman has four children from a previous relationship.

Early on in their relationship, Sadler and Alterman agreed that marriage wasn’t a necessity for their future. But as time passed and they grew closer, they decided to take the plunge.
“We built the love first, without the container — and then chose the container anyway,” Sadler says. “Not because we needed it, but because we wanted it. That’s what makes this so meaningful to me.”
