Last year, while appearing on Andy Cohen‘s SiriusXM radio show, Apa opened up about becoming a father and how it helped him get sober.
“A lot of things that I realized I had to button up, I buttoned up, and I realized that there’s no other way for me to do it,” he said at the time.
Describing his young son as “being a gift that saved my life,” Apa continued, “I go, ‘I love you so much more than me.’ I have to sacrifice all these things for you. And that’s what a good parent does.”

Previously, Apa, who lends his voice to the recently released Audible Original The Summer Oath, told PEOPLE that he had a bit of an identity crisis when Riverdale wrapped up in 2023. (His former costar, Charles Melton, is Sasha’s godfather.)
“When I finished that show, [I] went through a year of really having to re-gather who I was, like, re-remember who I was,” said the actor, who played Archie Andrews for all seven seasons on the CW series. “And I definitely had this crisis of identity with a whole lot of other things that I was going through.”
“[I was] being a dad, my son being one year old at the time, going through a breakup with his mom and navigating all of that while trying to pick up the pieces of who I was,” he added. “But I look back, and I’m so grateful for it because I asked for this life. I asked to be here, and this is what it all comes with. And I’m grateful for it. I’m glad I went through it.”
