WYOMISSING — PENN Entertainment this week launched its leading digital gaming brands in Alberta, Canada. The launch of theScore Bet Sportsbook & Casino in Alberta, as well as theScore Casino and Hollywood Casino standalone apps, expands the Berk-based company’s online gaming footprint in Canada.
Already available in Ontario, the Alberta launch marks the next chapter in theScore Bet’s continued growth in Canada, PENN Entertainment said in its Monday announcement.
In addition to sports betting, theScore Bet Sportsbook & Casino gives Alberta players access to a comprehensive online casino experience featuring hundreds of slots, table games, live dealer experiences and exclusive games, the company said in the announcement.
PENN also launched standalone Hollywood Casino and theScore Casino apps in Alberta. Hollywood Casino, the online and retail casino brand, features a portfolio of slots, table games and live dealer content.
“Alberta has an incredible sports culture, and we’re excited to bring theScore Bet Sportsbook & Casino to players across the province,” Aaron LaBerge, chief technology officer and head of interactive at PENN Entertainment, said in the statement. “Fans already know and trust theScore, and with theScore Bet, we’re extending that connection into a seamless sportsbook and casino experience.”
PENN Entertainment Inc. rebranded its online sports betting platform to theScore Bet at the end of 2025. The rebranding to theScore Bet followed the November announcement by the Wyomissing-based PENN Entertainment and ESPN that the two companies had agreed to the early termination of their exclusive U.S. online sports betting agreement, effective Dec. 1.
The two companies announced the termination just over two years into an agreement that had an initial term of 10 years.
Under the terms of the original agreement announced in August 2023, ESPN agreed to provide PENN with media, marketing services and the exclusive right to the ESPN BET trademark for online sports betting, in exchange for $150 million per year in cash payments to ESPN and warrants to purchase common stock of PENN.
Headquartered in Wyomissing, Berks County, PENN Entertainment Inc. — together with its subsidiaries — operates in 28 jurisdictions throughout North America, with a diversified portfolio of casinos, racetracks, and online sports betting and iCasino offerings.
