Live music, barbecue, go-kart racing, rodeo, and truck and tractor pulls are some of the highlights attendees can expect at the 76th annual Jefferson City Jaycees Cole County Fair.
The event takes place from 5-11 p.m. on July 27-Aug. 1 at 1445 Fairgrounds Road.
The fair is organized entirely by volunteers from the local Jaycees chapter, said Chelsea Hite, administrator for the 76th annual event.
“We put in a lot of hard work each year to put this on for our community,” she said.
This year’s fair will feature around 20 carnival rides, the same as last year, and various food vendors. In addition to youth events, there will be nightly live music entertainment.
Although last year’s music acts were more local, some of this year’s performers, whose genres span rock, pop and country, will be traveling from different parts of the country — rock bands Buckcherry and Saving Abel are from California and Mississippi, respectively, while country singer and songwriter Trey Lewis hails from Alabama.
The other acts are Missouri-based — Sweet Addiction and Five Turn Knot are from Jefferson City, while DJ Jody Rhew is from Kansas City and Grammy-nominated country singer David Nail is from Kennett.
All performances are included with admission, which varies by day. Admission is free for kids 10 and under with the purchase of an adult ticket.
For the first time this year, admission tickets and season passes can be purchased online in advance, which should help with the lines at the gate. Online season pass sales end July 24.
Credit cards may be used at the beer garden and admissions gate, although Hite said fairgoers can still bring cash or use the on-site ATM.
A bag policy is implemented at the fair — the same as the one implemented at many stadiums and venues. Clear bags measuring up to 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or small purses measuring up to 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches may be brought in.
