The Pitney Meadows Community Farm will present two free musical events this summer and fall featuring live music, community involvement, and the scenery of the farm in Saratoga Springs for all ages.
The festival kicks off with Community Farm Bluegrass Jam on Friday, July 17 at 6:00 p.m. featuring local artists Tim Wechgelaer and Chris Carey from Mostly Modern who will then open up the show for a community jam.
Guests can come with picnic blankets and dinner or just buy something from the farm store while enjoying the bluegrass music in the farm gardens and fields. In the second half of the evening, musicians of all experience levels are welcomed to participate in the music by playing their own instrument or using an instrument available at the venue.
Bluegrass has always been a community experience and this event seeks to honor this by creating an inclusive environment where neighbors, families, and musicians come together through their music.
Later in the season, Pitney Meadows will offer Farm & Sound: A Children’s Musical Afternoon, which is scheduled for September 19 at 3:00 p.m. This interactive performance will include the FAB5 musicians from the Mostly Modern Festival, who will introduce kids to music through themes of farming, food, and nature.

The afternoon is tailored towards the younger audience and will feature demonstrations of strings, rhythmic activities, encounters with professional musicians and a tour of the gardens at the farm. The program ends with a “sound picnic” where the kids are encouraged to experiment with sound using natural objects and music instruments.
“Community is built around shared experiences,”
Brooke McConnell, Executive Director of Pitney Meadows Community Farm
Both events at Pitney Meadows Community Farm are free to attend with a suggested $20 donation. Advance registration is encouraged. July 17 and September 19.
These programs are funded by Saratoga Arts through the Community Arts Regrant Program that is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the assistance of the Governor’s Office and the New York State Legislature.
