We have another ten tracks added to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music for you again this week. Acclaimed singer-songwriter and bestselling author Holly Throsby is our Track of the Week, with her latest single “Tell Me I’m Done”.

“Tell Me I’m Done” is the latest to be released from her forthcoming sixth studio album – Normal Magic, which is due to be released on September 4th. The album is her first since the release of After A Time nine years ago. The single continues to showcase Throsby’s new sound and sees her dabbling with more electronic and synthetic textures, blending them with the folkier more organic elements she is known for. The result is this gorgeous mesmeric and enthralling ode to creativity, kindness and human nature – flaws and all.

This week also saw Throsby announce an East Coast tour in support of the new album, kicking off at the Brunswick Ballroom on Halloween before finishing up at Thirroul Railway Hall on the 15th November. For more information and tickets head HERE.

Sydney veterans Hoolahan return with “Zircon Ring”, a beautifully crafted slice of chiming guitars, lush harmonies and hazy synths. They’ve announced that their third album, Bay of Chance will be released in September. Fans of The Go-Betweens should find plenty to love here. The track was produced by local legend Wayne Connolly.

Boorloo’s Polly release their brand new EP, Maybe, this week. The EP follows months of momentum building with a string of standout singles teasing the EPs release. “Shut Up” is Maybe’s focus track, a cathartic slice of indie rock that showcases the trio’s knack for a well crafted hook and their emotional honesty. Coinciding with the release of Maybe the band are about to head out on their biggest headline tour to date. It all kicks off this weekend in Perth. For full dates and to grab tickets head HERE.

This week also saw the Jordan Rakei announce details of his forthcoming seventh studio album – A Safe Place To Be Wild (Out October 30th) – and his biggest ever UK and European headline tour. Accompanying the announcements was new single “Enemies”, a stunning slice of sun-kissed 70s-tinged pysch soul, that’s playful and full of warmth and swagger. As Rakei describes it, “It’s an ownership song about not taking any more crap, rising above past dynamics, and turning all of that into positive energy.” Pre-sale tickets for the tour go on sale July 22nd, with general sale from the 24th. Grab them HERE.

AU favourite Joe Mungovan delivers classic Mungovan on “Wasted”: a catchy melody, sweet guitars and that forever-restless spirit. Inspired by Madeline Guthrie’s artwork, it celebrates saying yes to love, adventure and the nights that become lasting memories. This is the final single before his upcoming EP, Preparing For Lift Off, out 31st July.

Ruby Rodgers announces her forthcoming EP, Sixteen, with its striking title track, a richly textured and deeply unsettling reflection on girlhood, power, and the expectations placed upon young women. “Sixteen” confronts the contradiction of being dismissed as “just a kid” while simultaneously being viewed through an adult lens. Rodgers handles the subject with remarkable clarity, balancing vulnerability and anger without dulling either. The result is a powerful introduction to Sixteen, which arrives on the 6th November.

“You Will Cry” is the devastating, yet beautiful new single from Naarm singer-songwriter Annie-Rose Maloney. The single is “an ode to the unsettling feeling that everyone you lean on will one day be gone, and you must find a way to hold yourself up.” Unsurprisingly, then, it makes for quite a moving listen. Recorded on a second-hand tape machine in one take, “You Will Cry” is all the better for its minimalism, emotional honesty and authenticity.

It’s perhaps no secret that we enjoy a foray into Nordic music every now and again here at the AU. So this week we’re bringing you the new single from Faroese artist Eivør, someone who fans of the TV series The Last Kingdom, will certainly be familiar with. “Drekafljóð / Dragon Maiden” is the latest single to be released from her forthcoming album Tungl – out October 16th. Starting life as a poem, the single is an empowering tribute (and reminder) to the “fierce, intuitive power that lives within us all”. Accompanying the single is a beautifully shot, cinematic music video filmed in Svínadalur, Iceland.

Finally, we’ve also added two tracks from earlier in the week – “Gentleman” from Nashville-based Abby Nissenbaum and  “Stories of Love” from Sydney’s Verdani.
