The Queen has announced that she will give a book to every Year Six child in celebration of her 79th birthday.
Queen Camilla, who has made literacy one of her key campaign issues, has arranged for a special edition of Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell to be given to school children this Christmas.
Buckingham Palace released a new photograph of the Queen on Friday to mark her 79th birthday. The picture was taken last month in the State Drawing Room of Hillsborough Castle, Northern Ireland.
She wears a diamond and sapphire butterfly brooch, which was presented to Elizabeth II at the Birmingham Spring Fair in February 1977.
The Queen will spend her birthday celebrating privately.
