ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Let’s start with the first evicted player of the season. What was Ashley’s ultimate undoing and what do you read into the vote being unanimous?
JULIE CHEN MOONVES: I think it’s because Ashley didn’t appear to make any strategic connections in the house. Nor do I think she’s even made any “Hey, let’s hang out” connections in the house. I think the houseguests probably felt she and Taylor are in the same level right now in terms of being a competition threat in the game… but the difference is Taylor has made friends who want to protect her, and Ashley did not.
When some in the house wanted to protect her as a number for their side, they cut her loose when they saw she can’t keep private information private.

What’s your take on Jason getting emotional telling Angela about his dead mother and how she could be his new protector, and then eye-rolling and bragging about his fake crying after?
It bothered me. I don’t want to view Jason as a mean person. But what he did felt unnecessary and not nice.

Finally, we’re now over a week into the game. Who do you think has positioned themselves the best moving forward?
Dee. She gets the game! In addition, she has two small armies fighting for her — the Crossovers and the Red Corner. Right now, she’s sitting pretty.
