Mandy McMillan has always followed her own path, and her new single proves she has no intention of changing course. With “LTMFG”—short for “Let the Motherf***er Go”—the Canadian country-pop singer delivers an unapologetic anthem about letting go, reclaiming confidence, and choosing yourself without guilt.

Released across streaming platforms on June 5, the self-written and self-produced track marks another milestone in McMillan’s independent career. Blending country storytelling with rock energy and polished pop production, “LTMFG” reflects the artistic freedom she has embraced since returning to Alberta after spending years in Nashville pursuing her music career.

Born in Edmonton and raised in nearby Stony Plain, McMillan built early momentum by winning a CMT Canada contest before opening for Trisha Yearwood at Big Valley Jamboree in 2008. Her move to Nashville brought additional opportunities, including opening for Blake Shelton, releasing her self-titled EP in 2014, reaching the Top 10 in ole’s “Play for Publisher,” and even appearing alongside Kelly Clarkson in the music video for “Tie It Up.”

Returning home ultimately became a turning point rather than a setback. Since relocating to Alberta, Mandy has independently released her 2022 album Dream Catcher, followed by 2025’s “Crazy Crazy,” while continuing to perform at events including Pigeon Lake Music Festival, Play On! Edmonton, and Wild Roses Festival. She has also expanded her skill set through Berklee College of Music, learning music production before fully producing “LTMFG” herself.

The song carries a deeper meaning beneath its playful title. What began as a humorous post-breakup concept evolved into a broader message about surrender, healing, and self-worth. Mandy describes it as permission to stop holding onto people, expectations, and fears that no longer serve you.

That philosophy extends beyond music. Alongside new releases, she is currently writing her first book, Every Single Girl’s Guide to Self-Love, which expands on many of the ideas explored throughout “LTMFG.”

What is your musical genre?

That’s always the hardest question for me to answer! I usually say country with influences of rock and pop but honestly, I’ve never put my music into one box. I like to call it “Mandy music” because I just write what feels authentic and let the songs become whatever they’re meant to be.

How would you describe your music?

Authentic, empowering and a little cheeky. I love writing songs that make people feel something whether they’re laughing, crying, dancing around the kitchen or finding the courage to start a new chapter. If my music leaves someone feeling a little lighter than they did before then I’ve done my job.

Your career has taken you from opening for Trisha Yearwood and Blake Shelton to independently building your own path as an artist, songwriter and producer. What have those experiences taught you about resilience and self-belief?

They’ve taught me that success isn’t one big moment. It’s about showing up over and over again, especially when no one’s watching. Nashville gave me incredible opportunities and so many valuable lessons but building my career independently has taught me to trust myself in a whole new way. I’ve realized that resilience isn’t about never getting knocked down, it’s about continuing to believe in yourself, even when the path looks different than you imagined.

Can you tell us about your new single “LTMFG”?

“LTMFG” is probably the most “me” song I’ve ever released. The title makes people laugh but underneath it is a message of freedom, healing and self-love. It’s about letting go of whatever is keeping you stuck, whether that’s a relationship, fear, expectations or even your own inner critic and choosing yourself instead. It’s bold, fun, and hopefully leaves people feeling empowered when they listen to it.

The song carries a bold message of self-love and liberation. What was the moment in your life that inspired you to write this song?

It wasn’t one single moment, it was a season. I had been through heartbreak, loss, some difficult challenges, and a lot of personal growth all at once. At some point I realized I was spending so much energy trying to hold everything together and the most loving thing I could do for myself was to simply let go. That’s where “LTMFG” came from. It became less about one person and more about giving myself the permission to move forward.

You wrote and produced “LTMFG” yourself. How important is it for you to maintain full creative control over your work?

It was incredibly important for this project because the message is so personal. It had also proven to be a tricky journey off the start, so producing it myself allowed me to learn a new skill and trust my instincts every step of the way. It allowed me to create exactly what I heard in my head. I love collaborating with talented people, but this song reminded me how powerful it can be to fully trust your own creative voice.

You’ve described “LTMFG” as a reminder to choose yourself without guilt. Why do you think so many people struggle with putting their own well-being first?

I think a lot of us were taught that putting ourselves first is selfish, especially as women. We become so focused on taking care of everyone else that we forget to check in with ourselves. I’ve learned that choosing yourself isn’t selfish at all. It’s what allows you to show up more fully for the people you love. You can’t pour from an empty cup no matter how hard you try.

In addition to your music, you’re currently working on your first book, “Every Single Girl’s Guide to Self-Love.” How did the idea for the book develop, and how closely does it connect to the themes explored in “LTMFG”?

They’re deeply connected. “LTMFG” is the anthem and the book is the deeper conversation. Over the years, I’ve learned so much through my own experiences with relationships, healing, wellness and learning to trust myself again. I wanted to create something that goes beyond inspiration and gives people the tools to reconnect with themselves. At the heart of both projects is the same message – you are already enough and sometimes your next chapter begins the moment you decide to let go and ultimately surrender to what the universe genuinely has in store for you!

What can fans expect from you next?

I have some fun adventures coming up in the next little bit. I’m continuing to release new music, finishing my book, performing live and expanding into motivational speaking. My goal is to keep creating projects that inspire people to believe in themselves, whether that’s through a song, a story or standing on stage sharing my journey.

Is there anything else you would like people to know?

Just a huge thank you. Whether someone has been listening to my music for years or they’re discovering me through “LTMFG”, I’m so grateful they’re here. I hope people know they’re never alone in what they’re going through. If my music helps someone feel seen, gives them a little hope or inspires them to choose themselves then that’s exactly why I do what I do.
