Heidi Montag is marking a major milestone as a pop star while keeping family first.
As the reality star and singer continues to find new success in music, she’s focused on balancing life on stage with raising her two sons alongside husband Spencer Pratt. “This is a huge moment in my career,” Montag, 39, told Us one day before performing her first hour-long set at Neon Skies Festival on Saturday, July 18, where she headlined the event alongside Kesha and Slayyyter.
Montag acknowledged that juggling parent duties with her pop comeback isn’t always easy, but she’s fully up for the challenge. She told Us, “I’ve been rehearsing since I got the call, which I think was in late February or March, and I just didn’t want it to be so much pressure at the end.”
The Hills alum explained that balancing rehearsals and performances with raising children requires extra preparation and thoughtful scheduling. “I wanted to slowly knock it out and work on it,” she added. “You know, my children [Gunner and Ryker] are my priority, so I wanted to give space for them getting sick or me getting sick or who knows anything happening.”
“So little by little, I’ve just been working on this show since I got the call, and then really ramping it up in the past few weeks as well,” Montag shared. “I’ve consistently been doing rehearsal for months now, and then you know, incorporating that.”
For Montag, the balancing act is worth it because she’s grateful to be doing what she loves. It’s been just a few weeks since she released her third studio album, Masterpiece, on June 26.
“I’m feeling really confident and comfortable with what is, and I’m just trying to take the pressure and the stress away because it’s fun, and the fact that this is a job and living my dream is so exciting,” she explained to Us. “So I just want to be able to stay on that stage and fully be in presence in that moment and to be able to have fun and enjoy doing it because that’s what the news is all about at the end of the day.”
Reflecting on her journey, Montag said years of reinventing herself have taught her to stay positive and embrace every new opportunity.
“I think that you don’t just have one shot in life. There’s so much pressure. Get the right course, and this is it. It’s like that’s not true,” she said. “Life is always shifting and shaping and changing, and it’s never too late to be who you want to be, and a lot of things take time and practice.”
While embracing her own new chapter, Montag has also been showing support to her husband, 42, as he focuses on what’s next after losing the L.A. Mayoral race in June. (Pratt finished third in the primary election behind incumbent mayor Karen Bass and city councilwoman Nithya Raman.)
“I couldn’t love my husband more and be more proud of him,” Montag wrote on X at the time. “What an inspiration, what a hero.”
Montag told Us Pratt has been really busy “so this has kind of been the first time where I’ve done everything fully on my own.” She noted “our family’s not nearby, so unfortunately, they’re not really able to help much.”
“I mean, usually, like creatively, I’m doing it all on my own, anyways. All my other performances and the lineup and the songs and the rehearsals, and that’s something I have to do independently, anyways,” she added. “So thankfully, I have you know a few incredible angel nannies that have made my life so much easier.”
