These spaces speak through simplicity, creating an impact that is not soon forgotten. Khloé Kardashian demonstrates that the easiest way to accomplish this feat is with statement lighting.
Photos from her birthday party reveal a space that is most likely the neutral living room in her Hidden Hills, California home. Dealing in a color palette of beige and cream, the space is striking on its own – but a sculptural light fixture by the Spanish artist Nacho Carbonell takes the design to the next level. It draws the eye up, illuminates the space, and gives the sense that the room is a gallery in and of itself.
Carbonell’s tactile ‘Cocoon’ lamps are made of locally sourced materials from near his studio in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Using steel branches and mesh, he creates sculptures that seem to breathe – feeling at once natural and industrial.
In Homes & Gardens‘ exclusive interview with Nacho in 2024 at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery, he explained that his work is designed to become an interactive, tactile element of the space where it is used. He stated: ‘I feel like my works are a universal product that can somehow blend one way or the other in the interiors of any house; the conversation depends on who’s interacting with it and how they communicate with them.’
This is interesting because Khloé’s lighting looks built for her space, but the process often works the opposite way. Nacho explained that though he does some commissions for public space, most end up in private collections within a pre-existing space. He stated: ‘The right place and the right piece will somehow find each other.’
The same can be said of all sculptural lighting. Though the piece in these photos is a literal work of art, its broadly applicable lesson is that carefully considered living room lighting can be completely transformative.

‘To create architectural softness and to aid light diffusion, alabaster-led pieces which place the mineral at the forefront and allow light to be softened and elongated will be seen in high-end interiors, to soften a space and create ambience,’ he adds.
