KUALA LUMPUR (July 22): Maxis Bhd (KL:MAXIS) has signed an initial pact with a firm controlled by the Pahang royal family for fibre and mobile connectivity in the Kota Sultan Ahmad Shah township.
Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding signed, Maxis will lead the fibre rollout for over 4,000 new premises and deliver mobile coverage across the mixed development located close to Istana Abdul Aziz in Kuantan, the company said in a statement.
“Maxis will provide the essential infrastructure and deploy connectivity-enabled solutions,” Maxis said.
Developed by KotaSAS Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tanah Makmur Bhd, the 2,000-acre project is designed as a ‘smart township’ with multi-phase expansion over the next decade.
The township is also expected to serve a key economic hub directly integrated with the East Coast Rail Link once the project is completed by the end of 2026.
“With connectivity now essential for communities and businesses alike, this partnership reflects our shared commitment to accelerate Pahang’s digital transformation,” said Maxis chief executive officer Goh Seow Eng.
Maxis will also implement a range of technologies in the township, including e-billboards, street lighting management, solar systems, smart energy meters, traffic lights and smart poles. Residents and businesses will also get exclusive packages for Maxis services.
“With Maxis on board as our connectivity and digital solutions partner, we are well placed to accelerate this vision and set a new benchmark of smart, sustainable living for the region,” said Tanah Makmur CEO Datuk Shahrul Nizam Abdul Aziz.
Tanah Makmur, which also has durian and pineapple plantation businesses, is chaired by Pahang Princess Tengku Datuk Seri Nong Fatimah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
