The clangy, flinty, ruminative Boston DIY indie trio formed in 2010, quickly cranked out three albums, helped inspire a wave of peers, and broke up in 2015. It was a classic case of a band just suddenly stopping mid-groove, and the story always seemed incomplete. Three years after their ending, Krill reunited to play LVL UP’s final show. In 2019, all three members reunited to form a new band called Knot, and they released a self-titled album in 2020. Now, they’re back to being Krill.
Later this month, the newly reactivated Krill will play a headlining set at Boston’s NICE Fest. Today, they release the single “Commemorative Plaque,” their first newly recorded song in a decade. It’s a drawling, oblique mood piece with intricately spiky guitars, which means it sounds like classic Krill. Chicago multi-instrumentalist Macie Stewart, one of our favorite new artists of last year, adds violin, while longtime collaborator Will Greene plays saxophone. Check it out below.
