Pirastro just announced the release of a new Tonica violin string set.
The new Tonica Violin Set combines Pirastro’s proven Volin Tonica A and G strings with the popular E Gold Label, as well as the rich and warm sounding Tonica D Aluminum.
Available in 4/4 size and medium tension, the new set comes as follows:
- G Synthetic/Silver
- D Synthetic/Aluminum – warm sound, easy playability
- A Synthetic/Aluminum
- E Gold Label Ball – rich overtone spectrum, strong and rounded sound, very comfortable playing feel, excellent durability
Available from August 2026, it is the set with the lowest price point in the Tonica range.
The Tonica line is made of nylon core strings that produce a lively and round sound, and provide an easy tone attack and response.
The line comprises three other sets:
- The standard set contains:
E-Silvery Steel, A-aluminum, D- and G-silver.
- The set E-Gold Label contains:
E-Gold Label medium, A-, D- & G-Tonica medium.
Only available with ball-end.
Rich overtones and strong round sound.
- The set E-Aluminum contains:
E-steel wound with aluminum, A-aluminum, D- and G-silver.
Only available in medium gauge.
In comparison, the new set offers a better sound projection and brilliance while keeping Tonica’s signature warmth. With this set, playing pianissimo is considerably easier. The strings are also insensitive to variations in temperature and humidity.
