Nicole Williams English details her love story with Larry English as the latest guest on PEOPLE’s WAG World series
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model explains why she made Larry English wait two months before their first date after meeting multiple times
The couple, now married for nine years and share a baby girl together, credits their strong friendship as the foundation of their lasting relationship
Nicole Williams English knows what she wants.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model, 42, recalled her whirlwind romance with her husband of nine years, Larry English, in the latest episode of PEOPLE’s WAG World series, where she explained why she “made him wait” two months to take her on a first date.
While the couple has been together for 15 years since that first date, Nicole admits to WAG World host Skyler Caruso on the Thursday, July 23 episode of the exclusive PEOPLE app series that their relationship was “really tricky” in the beginning.

“For three weekends in a row before I actually met Larry, I saw him out of the corner of my eye at the same exact event,” the model says of the retired defensive end, 40, who played for six NFL seasons across the then-San Diego Chargers (2009-2013) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014).
Nicole recalled her girlfriend pointing Larry out on three different occasions, referring to him as the “guy in the white T-shirt” while they were in the same place at the same time. She wasn’t looking for a relationship at the time, which is why she wasn’t quick to express excitement.
“I was already getting out of a really bad one, so I was like, ‘I am not. I’m single, I’m in LA.’ I was living in New York at the time, but she was making me stay in L.A. because she was my best friend,” shares Nicole, who was a main character on E!’s original WAGS series for three seasons from 2015 to 2017.

Nicole’s third interaction with Larry occurred after they were leaving a mutual friend’s birthday party and walked to another spot when the event concluded. Nicole was with her same friend, who was chatting with Larry’s friend and shared the football player was interested in the SI Swimsuit model.
“Funny enough, he was with a girl that night,” Nicole recalls. “He’s looking at me but he’s standing there with a girl, and I’m just like, ‘No, no, no, no, no,’ and I was playing so hard to get. I didn’t give him my number, I didn’t talk to him for the night.”
“And then somehow, he worked around his friend talking to my best friend to get to me,” she says. “I made him wait for two months to take me on a date. I was a little scarred I guess from my last relationship, but I made him wait.”
“I think that’s what made him want to date me so much because he can’t get it, and men like what they can’t have,” she says. “I wasn’t trying to play games. I just wasn’t ready, and so I think that’s what made him more attractive to me. He worked really hard and I found that really attractive.”

Eventually, Nicole took Larry up on that date and says they’ve been “inseparable” ever since. The couple got engaged in 2016 and tied the knot at Montage Laguna Beach in California in May 2017.
In January 2023, Nicole and Larry welcomed their first baby, daughter India Moon. When she walked the runway at SI Swimsuit‘s Miami Swim Week show in July 2022, she sweetly revealed her baby bump in a bikini alongside Larry.
Nicole shares on WAG World how the foundation of their marriage was built on friendship.
“I just truly believe that we started out as literal best friends,” she says of Larry. “We wanted to do everything together, we loved being around each other. We did so much. We traveled, we partied together. Honestly, when we were younger, we just were inseparable.”
“When you have a strong foundation of friendship and you really, truly love to be around each other, then you really are able to see, ‘Wow, this could work,’” she continues. “And it took him only six years to propose to me, and so I think that we lived together, we took it slow, we didn’t rush anything.”

Becoming parents has also influenced the couple’s relationship dynamic.
“When you have a girl and you’re watching your husband with a little baby girl. It’s amazing. I am built for this. I feel like this is what I always wanted,” Nicole says of motherhood. “It’s a powerful love. It is something I’ve never experienced before. I’m completely obsessed with my daughter.”
She concludes, “Just watching Larry be a girl dad is unreal. It’s amazing.”
