Earlier this month, Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry enjoyed a quiet vacation around Europe, where they brought along their two kids: Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. Part of the trip involved a surprise visit to Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, England, where the two little ones were reunited with their grandfather, King Charles III, for the first time in over four years. But as it turns out, they also made a trip to honor their late grandmother.
Yesterday afternoon, Meghan shared a new slideshow to Instagram, which documented her family’s vacations this summer. The pictures saw Archie sitting in the cockpit of a plane, Lilibet doing flips in the pool, and Meghan sunbathing with the family dog. However, the Duchess of Sussex snuck in one shot that revealed the family went to visit Princess Diana’s childhood home: Althorp House.
The carousel, which was captioned “Summer Holiday ☀️,” included a photo of the Sussex kids walking with Harry on tree-lined grounds. In the photo, Archie is seen up ahead, keeping pace with his father as both carry large bouquets of flowers, while Lilibet hangs back, carrying a small bag on her arm, as well as a jacket.
This photo is believed to have been taken at Althorp, as noted by People, and Harry and Archie may have been carrying flowers to Princess Diana’s burial site, which is located on the estate, on an island in Oval Lake.
The late Princess of Wales moved to Althorp when she was just 14, after her father inherited the title of 8th Earl Spencer. She lived there for about three years before going off to finishing school and eventually moving to West London. After her passing in 1997, the estate was chosen to serve as her final resting place. Her younger brother, Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, still resides there today.
