Tom Holland explains why his friendship with Jon Bernthal is so important to him on Hot Ones

Promotion for a film usually stops abruptly as soon as it opens. Going into its second weekend, though, there is still so much about The Odyssey it feels like it hasn’t premiered yet; not just because certain cast members continue to make appearances and do interviews, but also because the cast is so big and all of them hustled so hard the last few weeks, media outlets and other sources have been able to make so much good use out of the time they had with the talent – and/or bank their content.

Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal were the two from The Odyssey assigned to do Hot Ones. These two go way back, their lore is well known. I haven’t watched the whole episode yet (you can watch it here), but I’m charmed by this clip of Tom struggling to get through expressing what Jon means to him and why their friendship is so important. 

Hot Ones would have been filmed at least a couple of weeks ago. In the present, Tom is  back on the press tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day with Zendaya and they’re in Shanghai. Chinese social media is popping off over them right now. They had time in the schedule to go shopping, try out local cuisine, and now everybody on Weibo knows that it got so hot, Tom had to shop for a pair of shorts to change into. Actually, not shorts…but capris! From a Chinese brand that has now sold out of the black pair that he bought.

What did I say about capris earlier this week?! They are a huge trend this summer and obviously not just for women because my husband last month bought five pairs of them at one go and they look really good on him which I almost never say because he usually has the worst taste.

I love how these two movies have given them a working honeymoon, it’s just so endlessly sweet. During the fan event they were taught how to say “I love you” in Mandarin. But the caption on this tweet isn’t entirely correct. She’s not saying “I love you” to Tom. If she were saying it to Tom, it would only be three syllables: wǒ ài nǐ (我爱你). As you can hear though, she says four syllables: wǒ ài nǐ men (我爱你们) which means “I love you all”. In Chinese we can pluralise the “you” to be more precise about who we’re talking to.

Law Roach gave us a better look at Zendaya in the Versace. She is, of course, his muse but whenever he shares the work that they do together, you can also feel his admiration and affection for her through the music choices.

Law was on Bevelations recently and was asked about that controversial moment at the Louis Vuitton fashion show back in March 2023 when there was some drama over his seat. Nobody really cares about this anymore, so the big takeaway from his answer is how he describes his status and influence as an image architect. There may be some people who can’t handle this truth and the way he’s expressing it but he IS the Zendaya of his field. Who could possibly argue with that? And the reason it’s important for him to say it out loud with his whole chest is because there was a time, like just a decade ago really, when Black creatives were gatekept from this profession.

Back to Tom and Zendaya and their marathon run of press though – here’s where my worlds collide. Because one of the interviews they and Jacob Batalon did on the Spider-Man junket was with Epik High! Tablo, Mithra, and DJ Tukutz are considered hip-hop trailblazers in Korea. They are mentors to BTS’s RM and Suga. They’re still releasing music and touring, of course, but like so many Korean entertainers, they’re also heavily involved in variety shows. Tablo now has his own English-language podcast (Mithra and Tukutz make regular appearances) and Jacob has been a guest so now the three of them as Epik High are interviewing the three heavies of Spider-Man. It is cracking me up that they showed up in sweat pants with their tote bags like they just came from dropping their kids off. 

Epik High left Korea to interview the Spider-Man cast. Meanwhile Hudson Williams is in Korea. As mentioned yesterday he’s doing a skincare partnership, which all the way tracks since we already know he was using Korean skincare even before he became famous. Heated Rivalry officially started streaming in Korea in April but the show and Hudson were super viral for months before that – and, not surprisingly, they seem pretty jacked that he’s in his mother’s motherland. She’s with him on the trip and they had a cute moment together greeting fans.

Meghan Sussex shared a carousel of summer photos on Instagram yesterday, with a few shots that include Prince Harry and their two children Archie and Lilibet at Althorp, Princess Diana’s family estate. That probably spiked the blood pressure of the British tabloids and the haters. The kids faces, as usual, aren’t visible. Nobody wants to see those faces more than the anti-Sussex.

Maria talked about Marcello Hernandez’s Kevin Hart imitation earlier this week when they were promoting their new movie, 72 Hours, on TODAY. Roasting Kevin is pretty much the entire press tour. The movie is now streaming on Netflix but I feel like this is the roast that should have happened instead of the mess from earlier this year.

The most viral slide from V’s photo dump after BTS’s Paris shows featured Jung Kook at the Eiffel Tower in a 6-7 battle with a kid in the elevator. They were all losing their sh-t over the encounter.

That video is from JK’s perspective and since then ARMY has been hoping to see the moment from the other direction. Only a matter of time.
