Jon Bon Jovi unexpectedly and abruptly ended his concert at Madison Square Garden Thursday night about an hour and a half into the show after struggling to perform.
According to a statement from a spokesperson for the band, the singer had been “battling a sinus infection which led to the show’s early ending.”
She added, “As part of the Bon Jovi residency at Madison Square Garden, Jon has said numerous times that it has been a joy to return to live shows for the band. Updated information will be available shortly.”
During the performance, Train lead singer Pat Monahan stepped in to help finish “Livin’ on a Prayer,” one of Bon Jovi’s biggest hits, before the show stopped early.
Bon Jovi apologized to fans and asked them not to throw away their tickets, saying he would find a way to make it up to them once he felt well enough to perform again.
“Don’t throw away your ticket stubs, I’m gonna figure something out, OK?” the singer told the crowd. “Just hold onto it, we’ll figure out how to reschedule,” he said.
He added, “But I’m gonna have to cool it for the night. I feel great. I’ll see you again soon, goodnight.”

The concert’s early end comes four years after he underwent surgery for a strained vocal cord, which also forced him to step back from performing.
In June, he told People “I’m fully recovered.” He added that “it was longer than I’d ever expected, but it had to be right.”
Bon Jovi recently launched his “Forever Tour,” his first tour since recovering from vocal cord surgery. The tour opened July 7 at MSG, with Thursday night marking the eighth show performed at the arena.
Despite his recovery process, Bon Jovi said his bandmates and team never stopped supporting him or doubted he would eventually return.
“They never doubted [me] and never looked for work or decided to retire,” he told People. “The sacrifices that each one of them have made to be there for me is on a whole ‘nother level. They said, ‘No, we’re with you.’ Every day of every rehearsal they were there with me. My love for them has only deepened,” he said.
