Tour the house: Entry to Dumfries House is by paid guided tour only, with standard House and Grand Tours as well as specialist Chippendale, art and clock tours available. Places can fill quickly, so it is worth booking ahead.
Stay overnight: Book a room at the five-star Dumfries House Lodge, a country guest house created from a renovated former farm building on the edge of the estate or stay in one of its self-catering cottages.
Opening hours: The 2,000-acre estate is open 365 days a year and is free to explore on foot. House tours generally run most days in summer and mainly on the weekends in winter. Entry to the Queen Elizabeth II Walled Garden costs £3, while the estate’s other gardens are free.
