Three years ago today, Travis Kelce aired the New Heights podcast episode that ultimately led to his romance with now-wife Taylor Swift.
In the now-famous clip, Travis told his brother and co-host, Jason Kelce, about attending Swift’s Eras Tour show in Kansas City, Kansas in July 2023. At the time, Swift was coming off her breakup with Joe Alwyn and a brief romance with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy.
During the episode, Travis revealed that he had tried to give Swift a custom friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, but wasn’t able to because she doesn’t meet fans before or after her shows in order to protect her voice.
“I was a little butt hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,” Travis said.
Jason immediately asked his younger brother to explain.
“If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets handed out. I received a bunch of them, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it,” Travis said.
Jason then asked whether he meant No. 87—his Kansas City Chiefs jersey number—or his actual phone number.
“You know which one,” Travis replied with a grin.
Swift reflected on the viral moment during her first appearance on New Heights in August 2025.
“It was such a wild, romantic gesture,” she said. “This kind of felt more like I was in an ’80s John Hughes movie, and he was just, like, standing outside of my window with a boombox, just being like, ‘I want to date you.'”
Just weeks after the podcast episode aired, Swift and Kelce took their relationship public when she attended her first Kansas City Chiefs game on Sept. 24, 2023, cheering him on against the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium.
The couple tied the knot on July 3 in front of more than 1,000 guests at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
