The teams opened their weekend series on Thursday night which saw the Tigers earn a 4-3 victory. They extended their lead in the series on Friday with another narrow victory, this time 2-1, before the Royals bounced back to secure a close 3-2 win on Saturday. Daniel Lynch improved to 4-2 on the season with that win on Saturday night and Jacob Waguespack dropped to 0-1 on the year after giving up one earned run in the top of the ninth.
Hao-Yu Lee was a producer at the plate for the Tigers, hitting an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning to plate Riley Greene and he struck again in the bottom of the fourth with his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field. Kansas City also had some big hits, as Salvador Perez homered to tie the game up and Nick Loftin connected to send a ball over the left field wall to bring home the game-winning run.
Luinder Avila will get the start for Kansas City on Sunday afternoon, while Framber Valdez will take the mound for Detroit. Avila is currently 5-3 with an ERA of 4.86, while Valdez is 5-7 with an ERA of 4.57.
