Now he’s had his long-awaited reunion with the King, Prince Harry is focused on rebuilding his relationship with the rest of the royal family – and palace insiders say he has his heart set on a fresh start back in the UK.
“England is where Harry’s heart has always lain,” a pal tells us.
“It’s no secret that he and Meghan went to the US to try to seek their fortune and capitalise on his royalty, but that American dream is cooling. Maybe enough water has passed under the bridge for some form of return.”
While so far, the Duchess of Sussex has been digging her heels in, Harry will not be swayed from his new plan.
“I don’t think he’s ever wanted to be estranged from his family,” a palace insider says.
“When he was madly in love with Meghan, he could be blind enough to choose her. Now things are different and the veil is lifting.”
Tired of faking it
Indeed, as their eight-year marriage continues to crumble, we hear a frustrated Harry, 41, has told his wife, 44, that he refuses to fake a happy relationship and that the only way forward is a full royal reconciliation, which will mean playing by his dad’s rules – whether Meghan likes it or not.
Our source says Charles, 77, has made it clear he wants to “see progress now” when it comes to the Sussexes sticking to palace protocol, “otherwise the door would be shut in the future”.

While that decision has shaken Meghan, who is reportedly struggling with the loss of control, Harry will do whatever it takes to finally make peace with his father.
“He’s spent lots of time persuading Meghan that they need to play the game if they want to be welcomed back into the family,” our insider continues.
“This is their last chance – everyone’s reached the point where enough is enough. “Harry understands that rebuilding trust won’t happen overnight and that actions are going to matter far more than words.”
A reconciliation must happen

Given many of the couple’s bombshell statements since moving to North America six years ago have been masterminded by Meghan, Harry knows a successful family reconciliation means bringing his wayward wife into line. It’s why he’s told her that “enough is enough” and that they must tow the line.
“If they want any chance of rebuilding bridges with the royals, they have to accept Charles’ conditions and stop fighting every battle,” insists the source.
“No more interviews, books or disparaging remarks about family members.“It didn’t go down well at first because Meghan felt she was being asked to compromise too much, but Harry made it clear this was their last opportunity.”
A reunion at the King’s Balmoral
It’s rumoured the Sussexes and their kids, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, have been invited to join the King at his Balmoral residence before the end of the Scottish summer.
This could be where Harry and Meghan are finally reunited with the Prince and Princess of Wales – the first time they’ll come face to face since the late Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.
“If that visit goes ahead, it could create an uncomfortable situation for William and Kate,” says our insider.
But Harry doesn’t see it that way and he’s determined that his kids get to know their cousins, Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight.
“Having everyone on the estate wouldn’t necessarily be a grand reconciliation, but simply being in the same place would represent progress. Harry thinks any opportunity for the cousins to spend time together would be significant after years of growing up on opposite sides of the Atlantic. “Harry believes this summer could be the family’s best opportunity yet to begin a different chapter. He knows there are no guarantees but also that opportunities like this won’t be around forever.”
Wills bans Kate from reconnecting

Kate has always had a soft spot for her brother-in-law and while she’s concerned about his wellbeing, don’t expect her to be in touch with him any time soon!
“Kate can’t help but be worried for Harry – she sees him as someone who’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders,” says our insider.
“A big part of her wants to reach out and offer him support as he navigates this reconciliation with his father, and the fact she can’t is very difficult.”

But loyalty for Kate, 44, will forever lie with William, also 44, and the prince simply won’t allow her to reach out to Harry.
Our source continues, “He’s been very clear that under no circumstances will he accept her extending an olive branch to his brother. He’s convinced it would be leveraged in some way by Meghan, plus it would totally undermine his position. The last thing he needs is Kate making it seem as though all is forgiven when it isn’t.”
