Both of us have experienced what it’s like to step into something that feels exciting, but also completely unfamiliar. Whether that’s love, chasing a dream, or becoming a new version of yourself, there’s that moment where you can either retreat to what’s comfortable or lean into the unknown.
So on the surface it’s a love song, but underneath it’s about embracing those new emotions instead of running from them. And as always, we wanted the music to feel like that too! Uplifting, adventurous, and a little bit like you’re on a rollercoaster, because that’s exactly what growth feels like.
Your music consistently focuses on positivity, connection, and community. In a music industry that often rewards vulnerability through heartbreak, why is it important for you to create songs that leave listeners feeling hopeful?
There’s a lot of noise in the world, and many people are struggling. Music is a powerful tool that we’ve both experienced supporting our overall mental wellness and state of being. When music is written and experienced intentionally, we believe it could have a drastic impact in helping elevate one’s overall state of being.
It’s true that the industry often rewards vulnerability through heartbreak, and this is beautiful, as many people can relate and feel seen. In addition, there are many people who share or seek to discover a genuine appreciation for life. Our music provides an invitation for those who wish to celebrate this mindset.
You incorporate audience participation and affirmations into your live performances. How do you approach translating that same sense of connection and energy into a recorded track like “Foreign”?
By creating a song around the expansive feeling of newfound love that so many can relate to, it invites an inclusive, communal energy that can be celebrated globally, reminding us of our connectedness as humans.
Whenever we co-write, we’re always trying to think of how these songs will translate live, and how to make it feel more like an experience that inspires connection. With Foreign, we focused on creating a song that feels like movement. The dance/pop melodies and the catchy chorus are all designed to invite people in. Our live shows amplify this energy with added call & response activations, expressive dancing & moments designed to unify our audience. All of our music starts with the same question: how can we help people feel more alive, elevated, and connected?
Beyond making music, you’ve collaborated with researchers and wellness advocates to explore music’s impact on emotional well-being. How has that work influenced your creative process and the messages you choose to share through your songs?
It’s beautiful to see how experts in the scientific fields continue to validate the positive impacts of music on our overall mental wellness. From the perspective of entertainment, we believe that we share the opportunity to support in amplifying these findings in a fun and experiential way.
We didn’t begin our journey with music because science told us it was good for people; we already felt that. We already know music is a powerful tool for bringing people together in a joyful and expansive way. But what’s exciting is beginning to see researchers validate what people have intuitively known all along: that music can influence our emotions, stress levels, and overall well-being.
Collaborating with institutions and experts like Dr. Rachael Finnerty (Founder of Music Therapy Academy) has helped to strengthen our belief that music can have a genuine, positive impact on someone’s life. Because of that, with every song we’ve been tightening on the messaging or overall feeling that the song gives us. With FOREIGN, we’re drawing attention to the excitement of new love, and amplifying that one energy.
This love goes beyond romantic relationships but can be experienced when discovering a new passion, or every time we authentically choose ourselves / where our heart is guiding. This feeling can sometimes feel scary because it’s unknown, but intuitively you know the outcome could be everything you are desiring. Either way, it will be worth it.
We recently started partnering with schools and universities, which in turn has reminded us that as music creators, we are also role models, and we want our music to encourage hope and self-belief in this next generation so they don’t have to do as much “rewiring” as our current generation. We like to call this ‘edu-tainment’ – a cross of music entertainment and wellness education.
All in all, we trusted in the power of music before it was validated, but now that evidence is starting to catch on, and people are starting to understand the impact of what we consume, we feel a responsibility to ourselves and our listeners to use that power to awaken hope and a positive, joyful outlook on life.

The energy of ‘FOREIGN’ is calling in a dream for us to travel and share our music & connect with the world, beyond our own borders. We have focused on our local community strongly throughout the early stages of our journey, and have recognized that this mission is bigger than where it started. Our purpose as artists is not only to elevate our own city, our own country, but the world as a whole. This song is the ignition to dream bigger, to go bigger, to be who we are and to share this vibration with foreign nations while unifying the planet.
We are working on international collaborations, and we’ll be stepping on international stages that are ready to receive and celebrate this revolutionary message. That LOVE can take us higher.
