Davo fundraiser
Speaking of that village, the recent passing of Davo Farrell will be observed and his life celebrated at a gathering at the Cannon School of Music, where Farrell taught guitar, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 2.
There are plans to establish a music scholarship in Farrell’s name, and this event will serve as a kick-start to that fundraising effort.
Besides the fundraising aspect of the afternoon, there will be music galore. Slated to perform are the many musicians Farrell played with during his time here in the Valley of the Tunes. The Davedjohn Quartet, Sue Stephenson, Sonoma Sound Syndicate, Live Band Karaoke, The Mesopotamians, Sonoma Shakers, Jenni Purcell Band, Lauren Norgeot Band, Friends with Benefits, Strange Daze, The Chartreuse Effect, Sharyn and Davo Duet, and Scarlett Letters will all put in their two cents toward Farrell’s memory and the scholarship.
Punk At EVI
The coolest stage in the valley, that of the El Verano Inn, will be filled with some high energy music on Friday, Jan. 31, when Skitzo and Dirty Westside roll in for a night of metal. Skitzo is a legendary North Bay metalhead band, and Dirty Westside, usually beating out a puck sound, will try their hand at metal.
The show starts at 7 p.m. There will be no cover, but donations will be gladly accepted.
Bobby at Chapel
The season of live music presented inside the chapel at the Sonoma Mission starts up again on Thursday, Feb. 6 when Bobby Edmondson brings in his “Bobby Edmondson and You” show. It is an unusual venue to enjoy live secular music, to be sure, but the sound in that room is astonishing.
The show starts at 7 p.m., tickets will be available at the door.
Western Swing doc at big house
A new documentary film called “The Birth and History of Western Swing” will be shown at the Sebastiani Theatre on Sunday, Feb. 2.
The film shows at 5:30 p.m, and will be followed by a live presentation of a swinging set of said Western Swing by the Familiar Strangers and Mae McCoy at 7:45 p.m.
