Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie is reported to be ‘heartbroken’ after her role in biopic Maria has failed to receive an Oscar nomination.
The actress’s latest film earned a Golden Globe nomination, yet the 49-year-old actress failed to secure nods from the SAG Awards or the Oscars, whose nominees were announced last week. While actresses like Cynthia Erivo and Demi Moore have been nominated for the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, Angelina’s name was left off the list.
In the film Angelina plays opera icon Maria Callas, but an insider revealed that the reason she might have been snubbed for an Oscar nomination is down to her ‘dark personality’ when discussing the movie.
An insider speaking to In Touch Weekly explained: “Number one, the thing that hurts Angelina is her almost total lack of a sense of humor or lightness when she talks about this movie. And when you combine that with the actual movie itself, there’s this air of sadness and moroseness around her that isn’t fun.”
The insider also suggested that Angelina’s withdrawal from Hollywood in recent years as well as her “gloomy” mood when discussing the serious biopic could also have impacted her chances of bagging an award win.
Speaking about her role as Maria, which she learned to sing for, Angelina described channeling the character’s anguish: “The character [Callas] has a lot of pain, and they’ve [her children] of course seen me go through a lot of things. But they hadn’t experienced me expressing a lot of the pain that usually a parent hides from a child.”
Angelina failed to earn a nomination for her leading role, with the nominations for the 2025 Oscars going to Cynthia Ervo (Wicked), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez), Mikey Madison (Enora), Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here), and Demi Moore (The Substance) instead.
Demi Moore has already been earmarked as one of the frontrunners, after already earning a win for Best Actress – Drama at the Golden Globes earlier this month.
