A cause of death has been determined for Tony Award-winning actress and sitcom star Linda Lavin,who passed away on Dec. 27 at the age of 87.
The “Alice” star died after suffering from cardiopulmonary arrest, according to reports from People and TMZ. Lung cancer was an underlying cause.
According to the National Institutes on Health, cardiopulmonary arrest is when the heart stops functioning due to an irregular heart rhythm. If not treated immediately, it usually results in death.
Her death certificate also noted that she was cremated earlier this month.
A few days before her death, Lavin underwent a bronchoscopy, a procedure that allows doctors to look at your lungs and air passages.
Lavin is best known for playing the lead role in the popular sitcom “Alice,” which ran from 1976 to 1985. She also won a Tony Award for her role in the Neil Simon play “Broadway Bound.”
“I have a wonderful life, a wonderful husband … and I have a very rich and full life and I’m happy to show up,” Lavin said in an interview with People a few weeks before her death. “I’m thrilled to show up at this time in my life. I’m really grateful.”
