The quaint gardens of the Musée Rodin welcomed their quarterly chaos, with the latest Dior show bringing out Blackpink’s Jisoo, Anya Taylor-Joy and Jenna Ortega to the front row.
Seeing the wall of cameras as she was making her way to the tent in the garden of the Musée Rodin, Venus Williams steeled her nerves.
“Buckle up, folks,” she joked as she hit the stairs and gamely posed for the photographers.
Despite the wintry day, Taylor-Joy selected a studded fringe skirt and shoulder-length gloves from the spring collection, which was devoted to archery. The actress has been training for a different kind of shot, as she is playing a sniper in “The Gorge,” which comes out next month.
“I’m an elite sniper, a Lithuanian elite sniper,” she said, adding that she trained “vigorously, very intensely.”
It costars Miles Teller, who plays her partner in the action-mystery film, which opens Feb. 14.
“We both were taught by different people. He was trained in a very American sniping course, and I was trained by a Lithuanian. It was fascinating. I got an understanding of a world that I had no idea about,” she said.
Despite the dangerous premise, WWD Weekend cover girl Taylor-Joy promised the film is not dark.
“She’s actually really light,” she said of her character, Drasa. “The film’s an interesting blend of genres. It’s both romance and action, and she’s very comfortable in her own skin, so it’s nice to do that every day.”
She was seated next to Jisoo, and Joy added they have worked together on shoots before and are friends. Jisoo, who has been branching into acting and also has a new show coming out, was feeling shy with crowds of photographers trying to snap her pic.
Elizabeth Debicki had just landed in Paris from Australia, where she had been spending time with her family. She had selected simple black trousers and sweater for the show, as she was dressing for the most ease and comfort to fight her jet lag, she said.
While there have been rumors that she is working on a new film with Ralph Fiennes, she added that is not true, despite the IMDb listing. “It’s always lying to you,” she joked.
What is next for “The Crown” star after her turn in the horror film “Maxxxine”? It remains under wraps for now, as she is prepping for a big announcement next week.
Ortega played it cool, keeping her sunglasses on inside the tent. She loved the fairy-tale aspect and the fanciful paintings that served as the backdrop for the runway.
“I saw that Maria was inspired by time and transformation from childhood to adulthood, and was looking at sources like Alice in Wonderland, one of my favorite stories,” she said of Dior women’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri‘s theme.
Alexandra Daddario, who shared her getting ready routine with WWD ahead of the show, picked her shimmery gold outfit precisely for its novelty and disco feel for day.
No dancing was on her agenda, however. “I think my jet lag and my old age are preventing me from that,” she joked.
She recently wrapped “A Tree Fell in the Woods,” which will be making the film festival rounds soon. “I haven’t done a ton of film festivals, but I assume it’s the same — you promote your project, you go and do the red carpet, and you just want to get eyes on it.”
The actress addressed the difficulties of getting an indie film in front of audiences considering the current state of the film industry.
“The distribution system right now is a little bit screwy, but it should be coming out. I have faith,” she said. “I think it is a good time for indie film in the sense that when you have something that really speaks to someone, they will really love it.”
Chiuri took inspiration from the Yves Saint Laurent era of the house of Christian Dior, with voluminous silhouettes and lots of ruffles, and nods to a “bird woman” complete with a feathered headpiece that read as a feathered mohawk for a “pretty in punk” collection.
