We’ve written about a number of Snapchat’s augmented-reality lens partnerships with artists and labels before. Its latest project is with an entire orchestra. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, to be precise.
The RPO has worked with Snapchat to create a ‘Colours of Music’ AR lens inspired by chromesthesia – the neurological condition where people experience sound as colours, shapes and movement. The lens works by scanning a musical instrument then turning any notes played on it into colours and shapes.
It’s part of the RPO’s ongoing efforts to engage young people in classical music. Deputy MD Huw Davies said he hopes it “will do much to inspire journeys of music discovery for people at home, at college or during a music lesson”.
