WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A new entertainment center complete with a bowling alley, golf simulator, and arcade may be coming to Oleander Drive.
Developers plan to build a 40,816 square feet structure that is 40-feet-tall, and two stories high at 5601 Oleander Drive. The plan also includes an additional 10, 832 square-feet of future expansion space.
The proposed entertainment center will have:
- an arcade
- bowling alley
- golf simulator
- 6 outdoor pickleball courts
- restaurant
- bar
But in order for the plan to move forward, the site has to be rezoned.
Strikes LLC, the company behind the proposed complex, is asking the Wilmington planning commission to allow the area to be rezoned from a commercial business district to a regional business district.
In the application, Strikes LLC says the Oleander Drive corridor has seen significant growth in population, but not much in entertainment offerings.
“Simply put, you can live and work in exceptional new developments along the Oleander Drive corridor but where can you gather for entertainment and to socialize?” Strikes LLC wrote in the application.
Strikes LLC noted in the application that the addition of the entertainment complex would encourage more projects along the Oleander Drive corridor.
“It is highly likely that the successful delivery of this project will increase the incentives to develop other aesthetically pleasing and thoughtful projects in the immediate area to meet the needs of Wilmington’s growing population,” the application states.
The Wilmington Planning Commission will be considering the rezone at their meeting on Feb. 5.
