Donald Trump has been tipped for a “hugely flattering” meeting with King Charles following his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States and a successful meeting with Prince William last year.
Several reports last year suggested that the Royal Family would be planning a big tour across the pond to “reinforce” the bond between the two countries, however, it remained unclear which member of the Firm would take the step.
But now royal expert Jennie Bond suggests that, health permitting, the monarch could travel to America.
Ms Bond said that a trip by Charles across the pond would be “hugely [flattering]” to Mr Trump, who was recently re-elected as the US President.
She told the Mirror: “Soft power is one of the great strengths of the monarchy.
“It’s what they are particularly good at: treading a delicate diplomatic tightrope without the complication of being involved in the political arena.
“Donald Trump is a man who appears to be hugely flattered by attention from royalty. So the Government would be crazy to ignore the asset they have.”
Mr Trump met with Prince William back in November, when they both visited Paris for the ceremonial reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral following a devastating fire in 2019.
The heir to the throne impressed the now-47th US-President, who made a gushing remark about meeting him.
Mr Trump told the celebrity.land: “I had a great talk with the prince.”
He also praised his looks, adding that he is “very handsome”.
He added: “He’s a good-looking guy. He looked really, very handsome last night. Some people look better in person? He looked great. He looked really nice, and I told him that.”
Commenting on their meeting, Ms Bond said: “William has already gone down well with the President, but Trump would probably now hope for a visit by the King.”
According to the outlet events, such the World Cup and the Semiquincentennial (250th anniversary of independence) in 2026, would provide a perfect opportunity for the King and Mr Trump to have their meeting.
Ms Bond said: “The decision will be up to the Foreign Office – and the King’s doctors – but the anniversary next year would be an obvious opportunity to deploy the Royal Family in cementing relations with the USA.”
