Duchess Sophie may be a member of the Royal Family, however she has revealed time and time again that she really isn’t too dissimilar to other women across the globe.
While she may be married to Prince Edward, the Duchess of Edinburgh, 60, lives a fairly ordinary life away from her royal duties, which involves dog walking, staying with friends and spending time with her two children.
The duchess also proved she was just like many other women across the world in a candid confession made to English actress and Bridget Jones star Sarah Solemani during a charity function.
Speaking on BBC‘s The One Show on Thursday, the actress revealed how Sophie once told her that she was just like the character Bridget Jones, a much-loved icon at the centre of a series of British films and books.
Sarah told hosts on The One Show: “I met the Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie. It was a big charity function and she came up to me and she was just like, ‘I am Bridget Jones’.”
The actress revealed the duchess’ past comment just weeks before the new Bridget Jones film is released in the UK on February 13.
The comment suggests Sophie is a fan of the films and is likely to be among the millions watching from around the globe.
The duchess’ comment also shows her good sense of humour, something many royals are known for having.
This was shown most recently in an interview she did with The Telegraph earlier this month, just one day before her 60th birthday.
The duchess joked “I’m 21!” before being reminded of the fact she was set to turn 60 the day after. She then said: “Ooh that’s so mean, you shouldn’t say things like that! It’s a very large number.”
Even if the duchess feels like she is like Bridget Jones behind closed doors, there is no denying how successful she has become as a working royal.
Over the last few years, the mum-of-two has been dubbed “Super Sophie” by fans, with her popularity – like Bridget Jones – seeming to grow more and more as time goes on.
