Prince William, who has been gradually preparing for his role as King, had big plans for the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and their children.
The Prince of Wales is reportedly “serious” about making Lady Louise and her brother James Wessex “a working royal” once he takes over.
However, the future king is in for a disappointment as Louise has made up her mind for what the future entails for her in the royal family.
The royal family had been struggling to keep the monarchy afloat as King Charles had been short on working royals, especially last year amid multiple health scares.
“One wonders if perhaps that’s a template that might work for Viscount Severn and Lady Louise Windsor, because I think there’s had to be a rethink at the palace because the shape of the royal family, the dynamic of the royal family, has changed,” royal expert Katie Nicholl explained.
She added that while the Edinburgh’s children wouldn’t have “full time working roles” it is possible that they would be “called upon on occasions where appropriate to support the monarchy.”
However, Louise and James have been deliberately “shielded” from the spotlight by the “down-to-earth” Prince Edward and Sophie, so it is unlikely that the children would be thrusted into a full-time position.
Meanwhile, royal reporter Brontë Coy pointed out that Louise had already made her stance clear on the matter.
“As I understand, Lady Louise turned down the opportunity herself to have the HRH title,” she said.
When Louise turned 18, she had declined to use the ‘Her Royal Highness Princess Louise’ and chose to take on a regular job before heading to university at St Andrews.
Previously, Duchess Sophie had also revealed that she and Prince Edward tried to raise their two children “with the understanding that they will most likely have to work for a living.”
She added, “That’s why we decided not to use the HRH titles. They have them and can choose to use them from the age of 18, but I think it’s highly unlikely.”
