Cook Mexican desserts at Center 50+
Friday, Jan. 31: Center 50+ will host a class where attendees can learn to make traditional Mexican winter beverages and desserts such as champurrado and arroz con leche using Mexican chocolate, corn masa and other ingredients.
The class will start at 2:30 p.m. and will last approximately an hour. The cost to attend is $7 for Salem residents and $8.40 for non-residents who have not paid an annual fee. Center 50+ is located at 2615 Portland Rd. N.E. and tickets can be purchased online.
Open Mic at RiverCity Rock Star Academy
*Friday, Jan. 31: RiverCity Rock Star Academy is hosting an open mic night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for local musicians and performers to showcase their talent. All ages are welcome and no signup is needed, although organizers recommend arriving early to secure a spot.
RiverCity Rock Star Academy is located at 2769 19th St. S.E.
“Arsenic and Old Lace” play debuts at Pentacle Theatre
Starting Friday, Jan. 31: Written by Joseph Kesselring and directed by Scott Ramp, “Arsenic and Old Lace” is a “farcical black comedy revolving around the Brewster family, descended from Mayflower settlers but now composed of maniacs, most of them homicidal.” It is suitable for all audiences.
The show premieres Friday and runs through Feb. 22. Performances are at 7 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets can be purchased online and range from $28 to $41. The Pentacle Theatre is located at 324 52nd Ave. N.W.
Catch a roller derby bout
Saturday, Feb. 1: Salem’s Cherry City Renegades will play against Corvallis’ Sick Town in a “fun, action-packed bout.” The event is family friendly and attendees can purchase food and beverages.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the game starts at 7 p.m. Presale tickets are available for $12 until the day of the event at noon, after which they can be purchased for $15 at the door. Children under 5 enter for free. It will take place at 1335 Madison St. N.E.
Indie music at Infinity Room
Saturday, Feb. 1: Infinity Room hosts a live music show featuring The Dry County Crooks (Portland-based alt-country), The Valiants (Salem-based surf twang), and Bazillionaire (a Willamette Valley indie punk rock band). All ages are welcome and the venue offers a full kitchen and bar before and during the performances.
Infinity Room is located at 210 Liberty St. S.E. #150. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $12 or at the door for $15.
Live Latin music from Pachanga
*Saturday, Feb. 1: Local band Pachanga is playing Afro-Latin rhythms, including cumbia, salsa, merengue, chachacha and boleros as part of Salem Reads 2025.
The event will take place at the Salem Public Library at 585 Liberty St. S.E. at 2 p.m. Entrance is on a first-come, first-served basis.
