An Evening of Cabaret Featuring the One-Act Play ‘Lockdown’
This production from Vanguard High School and the VHS Players Drama Club “combines lively cabaret performances, including music, comedy, and dance and Act Two with our performance of ‘Lockdown,’ a compelling one-act play about a school lockdown and how students cope during the event,” organizers say. “Lockdown” is rated PG-13 for strong language and mature themes. Second annual Brick City Bluegrass Festival
The city of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department will host this event 1-7 p.m. Feb. 1 at Citizens’ Circle, 151 SE Osceola Ave., Ocala. “This festival offers residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of live bluegrass music from a selection of well-known national and regional bands in a family-friendly outdoor setting,” organizers say. Bands will include The Wandering Hours, Unspoken Tradition, East Nash Grass, Pert Near Sandstone and Arkansauce. Advance tickets: $25 per person (available through Jan. 31) and day-of-event tickets are $30. Kids 8 and younger and veterans get in free. Ocala Art Group celebrates 75 years
The group, which promotes and shares the visual arts, was founded in 1950 and was established to “promote and encourage among its members and the public an appreciation for art in its various media,” organizers say. A reception, painting demo and live music to celebrate 75 years will be held 2-4 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Chelsea Art Center, 3305 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. “This venue will host the opening of a unique exhibition of OAG member artwork, to be judged by nationally renowned art expert Tyrus Clutter,” organizers say. “The exhibition theme, ‘Wonder, Whimsy, and Wild,’ will encompass the major genres of fine arts, including paintings, photography, and 3-D works.” The exhibition will remain up through Feb. 28. ‘Daddy Long Legs’
This musical is live onstage at the Ocala Civic Theatre Feb. 6-23. Madwoman (Indie-Psych Pop Rock)
This six-piece band from Gainesville “blends live instrumentation with electronic elements to create a genre-defying sound,” organizers say. The band will perform 6-8 p.m. Feb. 12 as part of the city of Ocala’s Spring Sunset Songs Series at the Downtown Square (1 SE Broadway St.)
Coming to the Appleton: ‘To the MAX: Magnolia Art Xchange’s 10-Year Anniversary’
This exhibition, celebrating Magnolia Art Xchange’s 10-year milestone, will be on view Feb. 15-May 18 in the second-floor Preview Gallery of the Appleton Museum of Art. “The show includes MAX’s 2025 Resident Artists: Rod Acosta, Kendra Brazzel, Joan Elizabeth, Sarah Lajealle, Z Reyes and Tyrek Studivant,” organizers say.
