A beloved personality from the Australian edition of Gogglebox has been left in “immense pain” following a spine fracture due to a horrific mishap.
Isabelle Silbery, a regular on the Aussie variant of Channel 4’s hit programme, offers her views and musings on the latest TV shows while also giving fans a glimpse into her personal life. She features on the programme with her young daughter, Ruby, as well as her mum, Kerry.
Isabelle was recently basking in the luxury of the tropical wonderland that is Fiji with her spouse Alex Richards. During their stay at the idyllic location in the heart of the South Pacific Ocean, the couple decided to go horseback riding on the secluded Turtle Island.
However, the trip turned nightmarish when Isabelle was thrown off her horse, causing significant damage. She had to be airlifted to a medical facility for an emergency evaluation revealing the severity of her condition.
Over the weekend, Isabelle took to Instagram to detail the scary experience and the excruciating delay before receiving medical attention. Accompanied by a series of images, she expressed: “Turns out being on a remote island is bloody scary when you have a horse riding accident, are in immense pain and don’t know how serious things are!”
She recounted: “A medical evacuation helicopter was only available during daylight hours so I was carried by local Fijians on a stretcher 2km up a hill in the dark, onto a boat and to my hut. They were all barefoot in the scorching heat, holding my hand and reassuring me I would be okay.”
“They had a doctor on call and loaded me up with pain relief to get me through the night, even sitting on the beachfront outside the hut to make sure I didn’t need anything.”
Visuals captured Isabelle secured to a stretcher and being transported to a helicopter – additional images depicted her receiving attentive care from those around her.
She added: “These people were absolute angels. Not to mention my husband who helped me wee into a glass… the kind of commitment that weren’t in our vows.
“I was choppered to the mainland for scans confirming I’d fractured my spine. One inch in either direction and my life could’ve looked very different today.”
Isabelle is currently recuperating from the ordeal at her residence in Melbourne.
Concluding her story, she issued an advisory note: “I’m home safely with a very large bill so a PSA to check your travel insurance as ours conveniently didn’t cover most activities you would do on a holiday, including kayaking, snorkeling, bike riding and of course… horse riding.”
Her followers quickly rallied around her, offering words of encouragement and wishes for a swift and complete recovery.
One fan commented: “Sending love… the fijian people are angels.”
Another supporter typed: “Izzzzzzz. Im so glad you’re ok. My god what a fright.”
