29th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) The Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade, organised by the Tourism Board, was anticipated to draw a crowd of up to 100,000 spectators. The parade featured a total of 9 floats and 46 local, mainland, and international performance groups, promising a showcase of exceptional performances.
As the evening commenced with the “Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade,” the atmosphere was set aglow with the “street warm-up party,” engaging 18 performance groups along Canton Road to add an extra touch of joy to the New Year celebrations.
The evening’s festivities were kicked off by Chief Executive John Lee with multilingual greetings, welcoming visitors to partake in the Lunar New Year celebrations. He highlighted the significance of this year’s festivities following the inclusion of the Chinese New Year in the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
John Lee continued to emphasise Hong Kong’s reputation as one of the most festive places to celebrate the Lunar New Year globally. He encouraged attendees to extend their celebrations beyond the night’s parade, as the floats would move to Lam Tsuen Wishing Square in Tai Po for visitors to make wishes and take photos with the floats.
The event featured a stellar lineup, including performances by popular groups such as Kep1er and LYKN, with the latter generating significant anticipation among spectators and online viewers.
The vibrant performances by the Thai pop group LYKN, comprising Nut, Hong, Tui, William, and Lego, for their second visit to Hong Kong, were met with excitement as they performed their hit songs like “SUGOI.” William expressed their nerves and dedication to delivering a memorable performance, indicating their eagerness to connect with fans, Hong Kong residents, and tourists during their stay.
