PEORIA (25News Now) – Thousands of students will be in Peoria over the next few days for the annual Illinois Music Education Conference at the Peoria Civic Center.
Happening from Jan. 29 to Feb. 1, the conference offers professional development workshops on the latest trends and research in music education for teachers. Young musicians also get to learn from guest conductors and connect with other music students.
Darcy Nendza, the executive director of the Illinois Music Education Association, said the conference brings out “a wonderful feeling” for the musically-inclined.
“We bring over 12,000 people to the city during the course of the weekend to celebrate all that music education brings to the world. The students that are here have worked very hard all year to get the opportunity to be here”, said Nendza.
The community also gets to experience what the students have been working on. For example, the organization is hosting a jazz concert Friday night at the Civic Center. Tickets are $5 each.
