Carole Middleton, mum to Princess Kate, is known for her fabulous physique and youthful fashion sense – and it may be a surprise to most, but she’ll even be celebrating her 70th birthday this Friday.
She has redefined what it means to be a modern grandmother, as she was once seen on the beaches of St Barts in a bikini, sporting swimwear with true confidence.
Carole’s brother, Gary Goldsmith credits her for inspiring her daughters, both Kate and Pippa’s, fitness regime.
He told Mail Online: “Carole has always looked after herself and eaten healthily, and she has a stunning figure. That mentality of considering your diet and exercise is evident in the girls also.”
Before the build-up to Princess Kate and Prince William’s wedding day in 2011, Carole revealed she went on the Dukan diet, a high-protein, low-carb regime devised by French nutritionist Dr Pierre Dukan.
She revealed: “I’ve been doing it for four days, and I’ve lost 4lb.”
As a result, sales of Dr Dukan’s book soared and, when asked the secret of his success, he put it down to two factors: “It works… and Carole Middleton!”
Both Carole and Pippa are reported to favour the Sirtfood diet, which incorporates specific foods, such as kale, turmeric, dates, walnuts, blueberries, citrus fruits, capers and red wine.
It’s thought that sirtuins influence the body’s ability to burn fat and boost metabolism while still maintaining muscle.
Although Carole is often spotted at Wimbledon, she keeps fit by playing the sport. Her home in Berkshire features a tennis court which she plays on several times a week.
As a longtime fan of swimming, Carole also has a heated swimming pool at her home. It is said to be a great exercise for improving core strength and can burn off 500 calories per hour. Another activity she favours is hiking, particularly in the surrounding countryside.
To flatter her figure, Carole often dresses appropriately for significant occasions, such as attending Royal Ascot or Wimbledon with her husband, Michael Middleton.
Prior to the royal wedding, Carole showcased a bolder fashion sense, often opting for striking pieces, but changed her style and now wears designers by the likes of Catherine Walker or Self-Portrait.
