Nobody could accuse Mark Zuckerberg of not going in for the kill when he scents blood. And no, we’re not talking about his 2011 animal-slaughtering challenge. Meta announced its latest financial results yesterday, and the analyst call saw Zuckerberg deliver the latest jab to the guts of the company formerly known as Twitter by talking up the growth of Instagram’s Threads.
“I expect Threads to continue on its trajectory to become the leading discussion platform and eventually reach one billion people over the next several years,” Zuckerberg told analysts. “Threads now has more than 320 million monthly actives and has been adding more than one million signups per day.”
Meta’s financials showed annual revenues up 22% year-on-year to $164.5bn, with a net profit of $62.4bn and 3.35 billion people using its family of apps. And fresh from ditching fact-checkers, terminating diversity, equity and inclusion programs, and paying $25m to settle a lawsuit from Donald Trump, Zuckerberg also made pains to praise “a US administration that is proud of our leading companies, prioritises American technology winning, and that will defend our values and interests abroad.”
