Jennifer Lopez was moved to tears as her latest film, Kiss of the Spider Woman, received a standing ovation at its premiere on Sunday.
The 55-year-old actress, who was dressed in a dazzling, web-inspired gown and black heels, became emotional during the screening at the Eccles Theatre in Park City, Utah.
Speaking to the audience at the Sundance Film Festival, J. Lo shared that starring in the musical adaptation had been a lifelong dream.
The Let’s Get Loud singer confessed: “I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life.
“The reason I even wanted to be in this business is because my mom would sit me in front of the TV and (West Side Story) would come on once a year.”
He reminisced: “I came here 27 years ago. The experience of launching that movie here is something I’ll never forget. Kiss of the Spider-Woman is a movie I started thinking about all those years ago. It’s a movie I’ve wanted to make my entire life.”
The movie, set against the backdrop of Argentina’s Dirty War in a penitentiary, centers on the character Luis Molina, played by Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, a queer window dresser locked up for a homosexual act.
In his cell, he regales political prisoner Valentin Arregui, depicted by Diego Luna, with the glamorous tales of his idol, screen siren Ingrid Luna.
Jennifer Lopez stars as Aurora/Ingrid Luna and the Spider Woman, all conjured from Molina’s dreams.
This film is a reimagining of the 1993 Broadway musical, itself an interpretation of Manuel Puig’s literary work and a nod to a 1980s cinematic rendition.
As of now, the release date for this picture is pending as it seeks distributors.
At the debut, attended by industry titans from both cinema and streaming platforms, J. Lo graced the stage alongside Bill and Tonatiuh, while Diego was notably absent due to urgent family matters.
