Actor Josh Brolin is standing by Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve after the filmmaker was shockingly snubbed for a Best Director nomination at the Oscars.
Despite the sci-fi epic earning five nominations, including Best Picture, Brolin isn’t holding back his frustration.
The Hollywood star said sarcastically: “Apparently, I am going to quit acting because Denis Villeneuve didn’t get nominated,” referencing his dramatic promise late last year.
Back in November, he told Variety: “If he doesn’t get nominated this year, I’ll quit acting. It was a better movie than the first one. Denis is one of our master filmmakers. If the Academy Awards have any meaning whatsoever, they’ll recognize him.”
After Villeneuve was overlooked yet again, Brolin posted a mix of anger and congratulations to his Instagram.
Hollywood heavyweights are rallying behind him, with producer Chris Miller tweeting, “What Denis did—in all aspects of the craft—was masterful.”
Brolin, who plays Gurney Halleck in the franchise, had expressed disbelief at last year’s Oscars snub as well.
“I don’t know how you get 10 nominations, and then the guy who has done the impossible with that book doesn’t get nominated,” he said at the time. “It’s all amazing and…totally dumb.”
