Lili Reinhart is struggling with a “mystery” chronic disease that has made 2024 “the hardest year” of her life.
In the past couple months, the Riverdale star has opened up about her health, including a “major depressive episode” that led to an alopecia diagnosis.
The actress has revealed that she is now struggling with another disease.
During an interview with Self, she opened up about her diagnosis of interstitial cystitis.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, the chronic disease “is a condition that causes long-term pain or discomfort in your bladder and abdominal area, along with urinary frequency and urgency.”
Reinhart said the disease couldn’t have come at a worst time.
“Being diagnosed with interstitial cystitis while simultaneously searching for answers about a mysterious autoimmunity/inflammatory disease made 2024 the hardest year of my life,” she confessed.
Reinhart found out about her disease over the summer, when she was experiencing symptoms that are similar to the ones of a urinary tract infection.
She was not originally going to open up about her diagnosis but her grandmother’s journey with ovarian cancer changed her mind.
On Instagram, she wrote: “I was inspired to talk about this after my grandmother was ignored by doctors for months when exhibiting clear symptoms of cancer – and it was only after her own strength and advocation for herself that she was given a blood test that diagnosed her.”
The most important thing the actress has taken away from the experience is “the absolute need to advocate for your own health.”

She stated: “Do not let a doctor gaslight you or diminish your pain. I hope the men & women out there struggling to find answers feel even the slightest bit seen by my experience.”
The actress’ statement came after her own experience feeling alone with her health battle.
“No one ever knows what that is when I talk about it,” Reinhart mentioned. “But my urogyno is telling me so many women have this, and that’s why I think it’s as important as it is to just be like, ‘Hey, I’m dealing with it too.’”
Her followers were touched for her vulnerability.
One said: “Lili your last interview really made me cry, you’re such a strong woman. We’re all very proud of you.”
Even The Vampire Diaries actress Kat Graham responded: “You are ALWAYS such a hero.”
