Fresh off the success of her highly anticipated ‘love myself’ EP, award-winning artist and songwriter Lindsay Ell has released her latest single, ‘i shouldn’t call you’, a stirring collaboration with Nashville-based indie band Nightly. Out now via Universal Music Canada, the track encapsulates the emotional push and pull between heartache and closure, blending haunting reverb with a soaring guitar solo that reflects the journey from vulnerability to empowerment.
Co-written by Ell and Nightly and co-produced with Doug Schadt, the song builds from delicate introspection into an anthemic realisation of self-worth. “I wrote this song to be the soundtrack for the honest struggle of coming to terms with realising someone doesn’t fit in your life anymore,” Ell shares. “It’s the perfect follow-up to love myself, because when you start to love yourself, you can see what you are worthy of.”
With a reputation for deeply personal songwriting and virtuosic guitar skills, Ell continues to push her artistic evolution. In a conversation with American Songwriter, she reflected on her creative growth: “I started writing music that felt real. The ability of a song to connect with someone on the other side of the world is what matters.” That connection is something Ell consistently delivers, as seen in her electric performance alongside Shania Twain on New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen.
With her role as lead guitarist for Twain’s Come On Over Las Vegas residency and tour extending through the summer—and a full-length album expected later this year—2025 is shaping up to be another landmark year for Lindsay Ell.
