KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It seems the Kansas City Royals have found their mojo again after an impressive 6-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians Sunday afternoon.
Seth Lugo (11-2) continued to add to his stellar season, He went six innings, allowing only four hits with one walk, zero runs and 10 strikeouts to go along with the win.
He’s firmly etched his name at the top of the Cy Young candidate list and today only furthered his argument. Lugo currently leads the MLB in wins (11) and ERA (2.17).
The Royals got on the board in the 1st inning after a Salvador groundout drove in Bobby Witt Jr. to go up 1-0. Perez was initially called out at first, but the call was overturned after a Royals challenge, eliminating a double-play and keeping the inning alive.
In the 5th inning, Bobby Witt Jr. hit an RBI triple that brought in two runs, giving the Royals a 3-0 lead. Witt is second in the MLB with nine triples.
Vinnie Pasquantino continued his solid play after he drove in a run on an RBI single the very next at-bat. He has hit an RBI in seven straight games.
Salvador Perez hit his team-leading 14th home run in the 7th inning, to break the game open, giving the Royals a 6-0 lead.
This was an immense series for the Royals who proved they are contenders after taking three of four games from the Guardians, who sit atop the AL Central and the American League.
The Royals now sit at 47-39 and currently hold the third Wild Card spot.
They will continue their homestand with a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays starting tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. Zack Littell (2-5) will be on the mound vs. face Brady Singer (4-4).
