Meghan Markle has fuelled speculation she has altered her engagement ring for a fourth time.
The Duchess of Sussex’s precious band appears to show minor alterations in trailers for her latest Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, which debuts in March.
In a clip from her new show, Meghan shows off her culinary expertise wearing what appears to be an altered engagement ring, along with her Welsh gold wedding ring and an eternity band.
The central stone looks as if it has been changed from its original cushion shape with curved corners to an emerald cut, which is usually a rectangular shape with cut-off corners.
Prince Harry originally designed the ring to include a cushion cut diamond which he sourced from Botswana, which is where he and Meghan enjoyed their first holiday together, according to MailOnline.
Royal fans gained their first glimpse of the ring when the pair announced their engagement in 2017 – a that time the main stone was set between two smaller diamonds sourced from Diana, the late Princess of Wales’s jewellery collection.
Meghan and Harry both explained the decision to include two of his mother’s diamonds as it felt important to the couple to have something from Diana as they began to pursue their lives together as husband and wife.
Designed by the late Queen Elizabeth II‘s jeweller, Cleave & Company, the original engagement ring was estimated to be worth about £120,000.
Within two years, the ring underwent its first alteration, with a thinner band on display at Trooping the Colour in 2019.
Harry is believed to have commissioned the jeweller, Lorraine Schwartz, to resize and reset the ring to feature a micro-pavé band.
More speculation about alterations was prompted in 2022 when Meghan attended the Invictus Games in The Hague where it looked like the Duchess had added more diamonds to the setting of the central diamond.
The ring was absent from Meghan’s finger at the following year’s Invictus Games, again fuelling speculation it had been changed again.
This latest sighting of the ring in Netflix‘s trailer represents the band’s fourth change.
Changing an engagement ring can be motivated by a desire to symbolise milestones in a relationship, to reflect changes in personal style or to upgrade it.
Meghan, Victoria Beckham and Queen Mary of Denmark are reported to have pursued the trend.
