NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A highlight of The Big Game is the Halftime show, and fans are already getting excited for this year’s headliner, Kendrick Lamar.
A music writer for Billboard Magazine is weighing in on what viewers can expect from the big show.
“All eyes are going to be on Kendrick Lamar that Sunday,” said Carl Lamarre, a music writer for Billboard Music Magazine.
All eyes and ears will be on the 17-time Grammy-award-winning rapper as he headlines the Super Bowl Halftime show.
“Kendrick had a meteoric 2024. This is something we haven’t seen in years. He had three number one singles on the Hot 100, plus a number one album,” Lamarre said.
Lamarre has been a writer for Billboard for eight years and said that Lamar earned this performance.
“Kendrick is such a hip-hop maestro in terms of knowing how to control the crowd, and just his energy,” Lamarre said.
Lamarre remembers interviewing Lamar for Billboard.
“He’s a different kind of cat. He’s dope. He’s stoic, calculated, and meticulous. He’s mindful and aware on how he answers questions. He knows what he puts out to the masses and how it has a huge effect and impact,” he said.
Ever since Lamar was announced as the Super Bowl performer, many fans speculated that he might bring out Taylor Swift since they collaborated on the #1 hit, “Bad Blood.”
“She will be there, but strictly as a fan. Her energy will be to root for Travis and the Chiefs,” Lamarre said.
But you can count on Drake not being there, especially with the highly-publicized beef between the two rappers.
“Kendrick walked away victorious in a grand slam bout with Drake with the song ‘Not Like Us,’” Lamarre said.
SZA is already confirmed to be performing alongside Lamar, but this music expert thinks he might bring out another surprise guest.
“I think it would be cool if Tyler the Creator had a moment,” he said.
He said this moment is really one for Lamar and hip-hop to shine.
“His breath control is second to none. His delivery and cadence, being able to do that without a backtrack, I think it will blow a lot of people’s minds,” Lamarre said.
Lamar’s fans will remember that he performed at the Super Bowl in 2022 alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mary J. Blige.
