Already January is just about in the rear mirror as we race into February. This week we’ve added ten new tracks to our Discovery Playlist on Spotify and Apple Music, including one track we premiered earlier in the week. Our track of the week goes to Aussie indie royalty, The Jungle Giants, with “Hold My Hand”, their first new release in eighteen months.
The track had its genesis from a period of trauma for frontman Sam Hales. He had a difficult 2024, enduring the end of a decade-long relationship as well as a serious injury from a mishap on a jet-ski. Sam emerged from both events with a bunch of new songs, and “Hold My Hand” is the first to hit the airwaves. It’s a dark swirling hypnotic dance track, pack with all the feels. They’ve announced a national tour kicking off in Sydney on the 4th of April. Head to their website for all the details.
“Alien Cowboy” is the new single from artist and producer Gordi, and comes on the heals of the Lunch At Dune EP back in November. Dramatic and atmospheric, the track has a bold, otherworldly feel with a mixture of ethereal and staccato glitchy vocals, sardonic lyricism, and bold arrangements. “Alien Cowboy” marks the start of Gordi’s third album campaign, so expect there to be much more new music on the way. In the meantime make sure you check out the accompanying music video.
We’ve long been fans of Liverpudlian outfit Circa Waves, and today they have released their latest album, Death & Love Pt.1. The feature track is “Let’s Leave Together”, and is another golden slice of upbeat indie-rock.
We love a bit of shoegaze here in the AU office, so we’re happy to introduce you all to “Soon Enough” the new single from Belgian group King Viktor – the brainchild of friends Tom Stokx and Arno De Ros. “Soon Enough” offers a nod to their influences, specifically Slowdive, with spangly guitars, warm unhurried percussion and emotive vocals from Stokx and label mate Elena Lacroix from Eosine.
Welsh rockers Stereophonics have released the first single, “There’s Always Gonna Be Something” from their upcoming album, Make ‘em Laugh, Make ‘em Cry, Make ‘em Wait, to be released on the 25th April. They’ve announced a world tour, hitting the US and Europe. Here’s hoping that they make it down under. They have a sound and lyrics that are always passionate and emotive. This latest track is on trend.
Earlier this week The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn announced the release of his forthcoming sixth solo album. The album, Always Been, is set for release April 4th and features The War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel on production duties. Other members of The War on Drugs are also on hand to back up Finn, and there’s going to be guest vocals from Kathleen Edwards and Sam Fender. Granduciel’s influence is immediately apparent on first single “People Of Substance”, which is bursting with brightness and energetic guitar work. Finn’s lyricism and strong narrative songwriting style, however, remain front and centre.
Also added to the playlist this week are new tracks from experimental Awabakal/Newcastle multi-instrumentalist e4444e (“Liberation”), and Swedish multi-instrumentalist Sofia Härdig (“Pale Fire”). We’ve also added “Sylvia” from Julien Baker & TORRES, who have announced that their debut album Send a Prayer My Way will be released on the 18th of April. Finally, we have added “Summer Daze” from Kat Greta which we premiered yesterday.
