Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded Coldplay’s successful India tour and highlighted the country’s immense potential for live music events. The British band created a sensation with their two sold-out concerts in Ahmedabad and Mumbai as part of their electrifying ‘Music of the Spheres’ World Tour. The tour concluded with a spectacular Republic Day concert on January 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which was also live-streamed on Disney+ Hotstar, drawing millions of viewers across the nation.
Speaking at the Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi praised Coldplay’s concerts and emphasized the growing scope for live entertainment in India. “You must have seen fabulous pictures of Coldplay’s concerts organised in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. It shows that India has a massive scope for live concerts. Big artists from around the world are attracted towards India,” he said. The Prime Minister also called for investments in infrastructure and skill development, stating, “I expect the state and the private sector to focus on needed infrastructure and skills.”
The Narendra Modi Stadium, renowned as the world’s largest cricket venue, served as the epicentre of Coldplay’s performances. The band’s frontman, Chris Martin, referred to it as “the best stadium in the whole wide world,” solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for global events.
Chris Martin expressed his love for India during the Ahmedabad concert, saying, “It’s so good to be back in India. You have one of the most vibrant cultures we’ve ever seen. This is one of our favourite places to play.” Analysts pointed out the growing potential of the country’s live music and entertainment industry, which is projected to generate Rs 6,000-8,000 crore in spending. The announcement of Coldplay’s concerts alone is estimated to have driven private consumption demand, with spending in the last two to three months reaching Rs 1,600-2,000 crore. The band’s successful tour underscores India’s emergence as a global hotspot for live entertainment.
